Desmond Red Crow is from Siksika Nation, and his parents are Alice Medicine Shield and the late Darcy Red Crow. He works for himself at the moment. Since there haven’t been any hockey tournaments for players aged 18 and up in Siksika for a while, Desmond originated from the desire to revive hockey competitions on the nation. This competition, which coincided with the volleyball jackpot tournament, was held from March 7th to March 9th to kick off March Madness in Siksika. Desmond received assistance from Mikey Water Chief and Hadley Many Heads in organizing this event, collecting fees, and ensuring that everything proceeded according to plan. The sponsors of this tournament were Sheldon Scalplock and David Wells. Desmond appreciated the poster that was made by Jayde McGilvery. Jody Labelle and Richard Running Rabbit were instrumental in determining how much ice Desmond would require for the jackpot competition.
The vast majority of the feedback that Desmond received was positive. The primary objective that Desmond was attempting to accomplish with this event was for everyone to have fun. Particularly in the playoffs, most of the games were evenly matched in strength. Team 4, the eventual victors, emerged victorious in a high-scoring overtime match that decided the match before the finals. The game was settled by two goals, the finals were close, the tempo was good, and the benches were filled. After battling back door all day, Team 4 emerged victorious in the finals. Team 4 consisted of Brandon Good Eagle as the goaltender, Dryden Jerry, Andrew Breaker, Billie Breaker, Colemen Daniels, Jordel Melting Tallow, Kolby Blackhorse, Merik McMaster, Maven McMaster, Deelan Doore, Phoenix Running Rabbit, Levitt Ayoungman, Brooker Pretty Young Man, Mugsy Red Crow, Dustin Daniels, Raylene Curknife, and Dusten Gossfeld.
“I do want to make something bigger and better for the adults. It was awesome that March Madness included adults in all sports this year. I remember playing in the first annual tourney. Now it’s on the thirteenth year. I look forward to many years of this event. It sure brings the community together in a healthy way.”
Desmond Red Crow on if we can expect another event like this in the next March Madness.
