On June 22, Siksika Media had the opportunity to attend a special rehearsal of the New Blood Dance Show, presented by students from Strathmore High School, ahead of their major performance at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium later that evening.
What made this performance even more extraordinary was the accompaniment of the Calgary Civic Orchestra — bringing the story to life with the emotional power of live orchestral music. The blending of dance, music, and storytelling created an atmosphere that was both hauntingly beautiful and deeply moving.
The New Blood Dance Show tells stories of resilience, truth, and reconciliation through contemporary dance infused with traditional Indigenous themes. It is a stunning representation of the intersection between cultures and a reminder of the importance of remembering and honouring our histories.
A Must-See Production
Whether you are familiar with New Blood or seeing it for the first time, this is a performance that resonates long after the curtain falls. The power of youth expression, the message of healing, and the collaboration with the orchestra made this version of the show truly unforgettable.
