Siksika Arts Dance Youth Event

By Tyrone Sitting Eagle

On February 20-21, Siksika Communications, in collaboration with Cowboy Smith, proudly
hosted the dynamic Siksika Arts Dance—a groundbreaking event designed to ignite the
imagination of youth and open their minds to exciting careers in media. The event was a
hub of creativity, featuring an incredible array of workshops including beatmaking, DJing,
art, graphic design, radio, magazine publishing, yoga, culinary arts, and so much more.

The event’s success is a testament to the unwavering dedication of Lynn Calf Robe and
Edna Many Heads of Siksika Communications. Their tireless efforts and commitment over
the past several months were the driving force behind the event’s triumph.

Throughout the event, students had the unique opportunity to step into the shoes of a
photographer and journalist, capturing and sharing the essence of the experience. Among
the standout contributions were the stories and photos submitted by students Trinity
Sitting Eagle and Carter Red Gun, who worked in one of Aitsinikis’ workshops and
showcased their creativity and journalistic skills. Their contributions added an extra layer
of brilliance to this unforgettable event.

Denis Lowhorn, a teacher from Siksika Nation High School, came with her students to the Siksika Arts Dance and said she enjoyed herself at the event. She is motivated for the students, and she recommends this for the junior high students.
