Today, on March 5th 2026, Siksika Media would like to recognize the incredible Educational Assistants at Chief Old Sun School who dedicate their time, patience, and care to helping our treasured children learn, grow, and succeed every day. Their support, kindness, and commitment make a lasting difference in the classroom and in the lives of the students they work with.
We also celebrate the treasured children themselves — the bright hearts and minds who bring joy, curiosity, and energy into the school each day. They are the future of our community.
A huge thank you as well to the parents and families who support, encourage, and guide their children every step of the way. Your love and dedication help build strong foundations for the next generation.
Together, through the care of educators, families, and community, our children continue to thrive. Siksika Media sends appreciation to everyone who plays a role in uplifting and supporting our youth.
Natasha White Man Shared 🗣️: “Educational assistants (EAs) play an essential role in supporting students, teachers, and the overall learning environment at Chief Old Sun (COSS). Their work often happens behind the scenes, yet it has a profound impact on the success and well-being of countless students each day.
Our educational assistants provide one-on-one and small group support to students with diverse learning needs. They help students understand lessons, stay organized, manage emotions, and build confidence in the classroom. For many students- especially those with learning disabilities, developmental differences, or behavioral challenges-our EAs are a consistent and trusted source of guidance throughout the school day. At COSS we have over a hundred students in various programs, such as: Treasured Children, Speech & Language, Literacy and Learning Support, where EAs assist. The responsibilities of an EA go far beyond academic help. They assistwith communication, help students develop social skills, support mobility and personal care needs when required, and adapt classroom materials so that every student has the opportunity to participate and succeed. They work closely with teachers to implement learning strategies and individualized program plans (PPs), often adjusting their approach moment by moment to meet each student’s needs. Being an educational assistant requires patience, empathy, resilience, and a deep commitment to student success. COSS educational assistants are attentive and flexible; they are able to respond quickly to challenges while maintaining a calm and supportive presence. The work can be physically and emotionally demanding, yet our educational assistants show up each day ready to support the students who rely on them.”
Natasha added “While their contributions may not always receive the recognition they deserve, educational assistants are an INVALUABLE part of COSS. They help create inclusive classrooms where every student has the chance to learn, grow, and feel supported. Here at COSS, educational assistants truly make a difference in the lives of students, teachers, and families. Their dedication, compassion, and hard work deserve recognition and appreciation. Chief Old Sun is stronger because of them, and the positive impact they have on students will be felt for years to come.”
