Calgary Flames celebrate Indigenous Night

By Andrew Breaker

On January 11th, 2025, the Calgary Flames celebrated Indigenous Night throughout Treaty 7 with a hockey game against the Los Angeles Kings. During the game, Eldon Weasle Child, the arena announcer along with Beesley, acknowledged the Indigenous people who lived in Treaty 7 and Indigenous dancers entertained the packed Saddledome with powwow dancing. At the pre-game ceremony, a Blackfoot singer from Treaty 7 sang the national anthem, and the children who skated with the Calgary Flames were also from Treaty 7 territory. The event was fantastic and packed with many Indigenous people from Treaty 7 and the Calgary Flames would beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 to end off the great Indigenous night.
