Siksika Nation High School was the host of a post-secondary institution fair, coordinated by Siksika Education Navigator Darrel Daniels, who works with the “Going All Out Society,” which is sponsored by the Mastercard Foundation. The event aimed to provide high school students with essential resources and guidance for pursuing post-secondary education across Alberta.
Representatives from various schools all over Alberta and Canada came out to share the diverse programs that are offered, giving students the chance to apply and inquire about post-secondary attendance. Doing this event allowed for excitement for many students as they asked about programs, sparking a lot of interest and paving the way for their future.
During the fair, students participated in interacting with the various booths that were set up, such as signing up for school, asking questions about programs, and starting conversations to see if they were interested.
In addition to information about specific institutions, Lethbridge University was there to share the vast amount of programs they offer, with them offering applications to be filled out right on the spot. As well, local peace officers from the Nation were there to help guide and show what they can do to become a peace officer. This was two examples of the various institutions that brought their opportunities.
“Our role as the Going All Our Society is to promote post-secondary programs, whether that be local or Nation-wide,” said Siksika Education Navigator Darrel Daniels.
The post-secondary institution fair was not just an opportunity to learn about academic programs; it was a big chance to show that there are a lot of careers and opportunities to be offered. In turn, this is something that is giving the youth of Siksika a chance to be who they are academically.
The success is owed to the amount of community collaboration that the Going All Out Society is doing with local and national institutions to make it possible for youth to chase after their goals.
