Blackfoot leaders, Elders, youth, frontline workers, and families gathered in Moh’kinstsis on May 14 for the opening day of the 2026 Blackfoot Confederacy Child and Family Services Kano’hssini Gathering.
Representatives from Siksika, Kainai-Blood Tribe, Piikani, and Amskapi Piikani came together to focus on the future of Blackfoot children, families, and Nation-led child welfare systems.
Throughout the day, leadership and speakers shared the importance of rebuilding systems through Blackfoot laws, teachings, language, and responsibilities to future generations. The gathering also featured keynote speaker Cindy Blackstock, alongside updates from Nation representatives and powerful stories shared by Elders and youth.
The evening concluded with a banquet and a special presentation from Robert Doore, who shared how culture continues to be our superpower through identity, courage, relationships, and responsibility.
