Blackfoot Confederacy Chiefs Society Hosted Gathering for Treaty and Unity

Mohkinstsis (Calgary, AB) — The Blackfoot Confederacy Chiefs Society hosted a Gathering for Treaty and Unity on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at The Confluence (formerly Fort Calgary).

The gathering brought together Blackfoot Confederacy leadership, Treaty partners, Indigenous leaders, allies, and members of the public in support of Treaty relationships, unity, and respectful dialogue. Held on Blackfoot Treaty territory, the event provided an opportunity for leaders and community members to reaffirm the enduring significance of Treaty and the responsibilities that continue to guide relationships between First Nations and all peoples who share this land.

The gathering reflected the continued leadership of the Blackfoot Confederacy in upholding Treaty responsibilities, strengthening relationships among Nations, and advancing understanding through peaceful dialogue and mutual respect.

Remarks were delivered by Blackfoot Confederacy leadership, including Chief Samuel Crowfoot of Siksika Nation; Chief Troy Knowlton of Piikani Nation; Chief Travis Plaited Hair of Kainai-Blood Tribe; and Chairman Rodney Gervais of the Amskapi Piikuni (Blackfeet Nation).

Additional speakers included Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse, MLA for Edmonton-Rutherford; Bruce McIvor, Partner at First Peoples Law LLP; Chief Ellery Starlight of Tsuut’ina Nation; and Treaty 8 Deputy Chief Sheldon Sunshine of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, along with other visiting Chiefs and leaders.
