Iitaisokinaapyoyis Recovery Community Grand Opening

Iitaamikskanotoni, Siksika!

We hope you enjoyed your long weekend!

Although we’re a little late, we wanted to congratulate the Iitaisokinaapyoyis Recovery Community on the successful ribbon-cutting ceremony held on August 26.

This facility represents an important step toward healing and recovery for the Siksika Nation. We are excited about the positive impact it will have on our community and were deeply moved by the heartfelt speeches shared by Siksika leaders, the Iitaisokinaapyoyis Recovery Community team, and community members who have experienced recovery firsthand.

Keynote speeches and remarks featured Chief Samuel Crowfoot, Councilors Candace Backfat and Stephen Yellow Old Woman, Alberta Mental Health & Addiction Minister Rick Wilson, and Iitaisokinaapyoyis Executive Director Skilee Dixon-Daychief among others.

Our favourite quote from the event, “It sounds like I’m sad but I’m not. These are tears of joy because our people have a place to go now.” – Councillor Stephen Yellow Old Woman.

The Itaisokinaapyoyis Recovery Community will take its first residents at the start of October.
