Siksika Elders Gathering (Omah’kita Piiks) Language Symposium held at Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park

Siksika Media was honoured to witness the Siksika Elders Gathering (Omah’kita Piiks) Language Symposium held at Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park. This powerful gathering brought together Elders, Knowledge Keepers, educators, and language champions to uplift and revitalize our language.

Our Elders are the heart of our Nation — the keepers of our stories, teachings, and identity. Listening to them is not only important, it is essential to who we are as Siksika people. Their wisdom continues to guide future generations and strengthen our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this meaningful gathering possible.

Shannon Bearchief Shared 🗣️: “it was the first language symposium and there will be many more to come and we’ll be using my elders as our main resource to develop the language strategy”

Alabama Kipp Shared 🗣️: “I really enjoyed my time with the elders and hearing their laughs and gathering together for the past two days.”
